Dear Birthmom

Dear Expectant Mother,

Thank you for taking the time to read our profile and learn more about us. We're very honored that you're considering our family.
Adoption is incredibly personal for us, especially because Travis is an adoptee. Being parents is our dream, and it would be the honor of our lives to care for your child.

We can't imagine the mixture of emotions racing through your mind and heart as you learn about prospective parents for your child. This decision may be the most challenging one you make in your life, but we know it will come from a place of love.

We believe that children can never have enough caring adults in their corner. We promise to honor your relationship and connection to your child. We'll always support them, help them fulfill their dreams, and show them unconditional love. Should you choose, we'd love to include you in your child's journey – you will be their mother forever.

We hope that learning about us can help ease some of the weight you bear right now. No matter what decision you make, we wish you the best. We're excited to get to know you and grow together.

All the best, Joey & Travis

Our Story

We complement each other well. Travis is an introverted kindergarten teacher who wears his heart on his sleeve and is a lifelong Minnesotan. Travis' students are a big part of his life and hold a special place in his heart. Joey is an extroverted, analytically-minded person who works in the corporate world and has lived around the country.

We have common interests, but also some different hobbies. We're both fans of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Minnesota Vikings. We care for ourselves by working out, spending time with friends, and following current events. On Friday nights, Travis likes low-key nights on the couch with Shay, while Joey's more inclined to hit the gym or meet a friend. Travis enjoys coaching high school speech, and Joey is deeply involved in his alma mater's alumni club.

 Our Extended Family

We're both only children who come from loving parents. Travis has always been close with his mom and dad, who live 45 minutes away from us. Joey's parents live farther away, in Ohio, but we feel strongly connected despite the distance – and they'll make frequent visits once they become grandparents.

We differ on the sizes of our extended families. Joey doesn't have many remaining grandparents, aunts, uncles, or cousins. On the other hand, Travis has a large family – especially on his mom's side – with over 40 members. Travis is especially close with his cousins. We enjoy spending holidays together with lots of love and laughter. Joey enjoys the big family gatherings so much that he felt right at home going alone last Christmas when Travis was sick.

 Our Home

We live in a cute 1930s-built house with a stucco exterior, a front door with a round top, a sunroom, three bedrooms, an attic (with a built-in work nook), and a fenced-in backyard.

Our home sits in an urban area with a suburban feel in Minnesota. The elementary school that our child will likely attend is one block away. Our neighborhood also features the state fairgrounds, a zoo, an amusement park, a golf course, and a lake. The community is stunning during fall when the foliage changes, but its most beautiful part is its inclusiveness – especially its welcoming neighbors.

We also have a dog: a Brussels Griffon named Shay. She's a sassy but sweet pet who loves people, cuddling, high fives, peanut butter, and walks. She's excited to find her new best friend!

 Our Journey to Adoption

We're so excited to expand our family and become dads. Adoption is deeply personal to us. Travis was adopted at seven months old, from South Korea, by a loving interracial family. While we have limited options to start a family as a gay couple, we consider adoption to be a blessing.

Our path to becoming parents began roughly five years ago, when Joey coincidentally wound up in the same state as Travis. About a year later, we met and started dating. As our relationship grew, we got married, moved into a house, and grew eager to share our love with a child. Travis is ready for his adoption story to come full circle... and Joey is ready to start telling dad jokes.
