Dear Birthmom

Thank you so much for considering us as adoptive parents. We know adoption is a really hard, complicated process. To us, you being here is an act of bravery and kindness-–not just for us, but for yourself and your child. We are sure that entrusting your child’s future to someone else is incredibly difficult, and while we are not a part of your experience, we deeply respect it. We promise to do everything we can to make that future bright.

We are two women who came to love a little later in life and have been longing to start our own family. Adoption has been our first choice since we decided to start building. We know we have a lot of love that we can share, and a safe, stable, loving home to give to a little person who needs it. With our resources and care, we hope to build a whole wonderful life for the baby, full of love, play, and learning. We strongly value education and creativity, but mainly we're excited to see what kind of person the child becomes and look forward to supporting them in their journey through life.

Our Story

We met online in 2010 on a dating site. Our love grew long-distance, through discussions and messages and then phone calls, since we were in different cities at the time. Our very first date was going to be a breakfast date and instead we ended up spending all day together having so much fun. We dated for almost 6 years long-distance, and then Kristen's work took her to Puerto Rico for 3 years. After being that far apart for that long, we didn't want to be separated any longer. We were married in 2019, and it seems like the best choice we've ever made to both of us. Two years ago we realized we wouldn't be complete without a little one to share this life.

 Our Extended Family

We have a widely spread and diverse family that supports us as prospective parents. Michaela comes from a multi-generational home in Virginia—as a kid, her house felt full and happy with her parents, brother and sister-in-law, nieces and nephews all there, and her aunts, uncles, and grandparents visiting frequently from Germany.

Kristen's immediate family is pretty big—she has three siblings, including a twin!--and all Midwestern. Although we are far from them, we make a big effort to spend time together. A favorite is family cabin trips, full of food and laughter. Christmas is a big family tradition for the Jones' and most years we all gather for almost a week. As a new tradition, Mich's mother Hannelore comes to visit our home several times a year, simply to hang out and spend time together.

 Our Home

We recently moved to a very nice neighborhood that is extremely kid friendly. It is quiet and suburban—there are always neighborhood kids riding their bikes out on the street. We're very close to K-12 schools and the local community college, as well as several hospitals. We live in a medium-sized agricultural town in Arizona with a vibrant atmosphere and an eclectic mixing of cultures that we really appreciate. Inside the home we already have a room set aside for the baby, and plenty of places for them to play, including a fenced backyard. We also have an adult cat named Mr. Chips. He is so sweet and so loving, and very playful, so we anticipate that he will enjoy meeting his new family member.

 Our Journey to Adoption

Michaela has a passion for learning about social issues in depth. She loves reading new and extensive work, watching documentaries, and listening to podcasts. She's very good at making connections between historical and modern influences on culture and social issues. She also enjoys analyzing and studying media and film.

Kristen is a science nerd who also loves crafting, particularly knitting and cross-stitch. She teaches physics and astronomy at the local community college and loves learning about new teaching techniques and science topics. She's already knitting a baby blanket and some stuffed toys... and a baby sweater. We both also enjoy video games.
