Dear Birthmom
Dear Birthmom
We want to begin by saying thank you—from the deepest place in our hearts. There are no words big enough to fully express the gratitude and respect we hold for you. The decision you have made is one of profound courage and selflessness, and we recognize it for what it truly is: a sacrifice rooted in love.
We vow to love this baby beyond words. Every day, we will show them that they are cherished, protected, and celebrated for exactly who they are. We promise to provide rich educational experiences, to nurture curiosity, to find joy in the little things, and will foster their self -confidence and resilience in some of life’s toughest moments - while letting them know that they are always supported.
Your baby will grow up surrounded by a large, diverse family—one that reflects many backgrounds, stories, and traditions. They will be raised within a true village of people who will fall in love with them quickly and deeply, and cannot wait to welcome them with open arms. They will have younger cousins who are already excited about “giving the baby hockey lessons” and/or “painting their nails”, along with other newborns to grow up with.
Because Melissa is adopted, we understand the weight and beauty of the choice you are making. We know that this kind of love requires incredible bravery and strength. Your child will grow up knowing that their story began with your love.
Thank you for trusting us with a piece of your heart. We promise to honor that gift every day and to fill our home with a love bigger than we ever imagined possible.

Our Story
We share a deep love for experiences that bring people together—especially sports, music, and quality time with the people (and pups) we love most. You’ll often find us at sporting events, from college basketball and WNBA games to cheering loudly for our local NFL team. For us, sports are about connection, excitement, and making memories together. Live music is another joy, whether it’s a cozy show at a small venue or singing along at a packed arena. We can’t wait to introduce our child to both sports and music, while always encouraging them to discover what lights them up.
At home, we’re natural hosts. Our house is a gathering place filled with laughter, food, and fun—regularly hosting dinners, game nights, karaoke nights, family lunches, and neighborhood barbecues. Creating a warm, welcoming space where people feel loved matters deeply to us.
And then there are our pups—our first babies—spoiled, adored, and fully ready to love a new little human… even if they occasionally steal a pacifier for fun.

Our Extended Family
Melissa S.’s story begins with love. Adopted at just three weeks old, she grew up believing deeply in belonging and chosen family. She has an older brother through adoption and a younger biological sister she met later in life. Her family is a beautifully diverse, close-knit family with roots in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Trinidad, Colombia, and Japan. Weekly dinners, sports games, dance competitions, and joy-filled holidays are simply how life is done.
Service runs in her blood. Her mother was a therapist and musician, her father a pastor who served the inner city for over 40 years. That legacy lives on through Melissa and her brother, both educators. Her nieces and nephews proudly call her “Aunty Melissa” and can’t wait to welcome a new cousin. Melissa and Michael are fluent in Spanish.
Melissa U. is a descendant from Basque Country, but was raised by her single mother until age 13. After her mother’s sudden passing, she and her brother were lovingly raised by grandparents, aunts who became surrogate moms, and cousins who became lifelong friends. She’s known how to build community ever since.
Together, their closest friends form a chosen village—full of fun, food, laughter, and unwavering support.

Our Home
Our home is small, sweet, and bursting with life—the kind of place that feels warm the moment you walk in. It’s cozy, a little cluttered with dog toys, and always buzzing with happy chaos thanks to four wagging tails. Every update has been thoughtful and practical, focused on comfort over flash: a lovely kitchen and bathroom, snug rooms, and spaces that invite you to curl up, laugh, and stay awhile. Out back, a fenced yard gives the dogs room to run, roll, and soak up the sun. Out front, the porch is perfect for coffee, conversation, and friendly waves. Our neighbors are kind and welcoming—we even join in when the next door crew shoots hoops. Just five minutes from a vibrant city full of food, music, and fun, we truly love it here.
Our Journey to Adoption
We love how we balance each other—opposites in personality, yet deeply aligned in what matters most. One of us is reflective and inward-focused, the other outward-facing and energized by connection, and together that contrast creates steadiness and spark. We share a clear moral compass, a deep respect for one another’s perspectives, and a strong sense of independence that allows us to stand confidently on our own while choosing each other every day. We admire each other’s unwavering commitment to friends and family, showing up with loyalty, generosity, and care. We also genuinely love our work and respect the purpose each of us brings to our jobs, knowing that fulfillment and passion make us better partners, better friends, and better humans—individually and together.
