Dear Birthmom

Dear Expectant Mother,

Thank you for taking the time to read our profile. We know you have many wonderful couples to choose from and we are honored and grateful that you would consider us as parents for the child you are carrying. Whatever led you to make this selfless decision, please know we truly appreciate and admire the strength it takes.

Our family prioritizes love and community. With your child, we’ll share a love and appreciation for music, art, and travel. We can’t wait to go on adventures as a family and show your baby the world. We want to teach them not only about their own culture, but also introduce them to ours. They will meet their cousins in the Philippines and learn to speak Tagalog and Spanish at home.

Our home is warm and full of joy and laughter. Your baby will grow up listening to Alma play the piano and guitar and eating home-cooked meals made by Cristina. Family and friends are always around, so your baby will always be cared for by a large and diverse extended family. We will give them the tools they need to take on the world and also teach them to love themselves, love their community, and to find joy in life. The most important promise we can make is that they will be loved unconditionally and supported always.

With love and gratitude,
Alma and Cristina

Our Story

Travel is a big passion of ours. Together, we’ve been to some amazing and beautiful places in the world. We eloped in Hawaii and celebrated one of Alma’s milestone birthdays in Bali. We’ve visited family in Singapore and the Philippines and are planning trips to visit other relatives in Australia, England, and Italy. With a med school friend, Alma climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and has been to Haiti and the Dominican Republic on medical missions. We recently took Cristina’s dad on his dream trip of visiting the Grand Canyon and went to Colorado with Cristina’s sister so that her nephew could see snow for the first time.

We are also lucky that we live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, the Pacific Northwest. We love to go on road trips and explore all the beautiful places around us. We’re surrounded by rivers, lakes, waterfalls, mountains, hiking trails, and campgrounds. The Pacific coast is only two hours away and we love to spend weekends near the beach.

 Our Extended Family

Family and friends are very important to us. We both have big extended families and many life long friends all over the country and the world. Alma has family in Alaska, California, New Jersey, the Philippines, Singapore, Australia, Italy, and Japan, to name a few. Alma’s mom lives nearby and she is always spoiling us with traditional Filipino food. Cristina’s older sister lives in Florida with her husband and nephew just a few minutes away from their parents. Her parents are recently retired and visit regularly. We both have nephews we adore and helped to raise since they were babies.

In addition to our family, we also have a large friend group, most of whom we’ve known for over 10 years. Together, we have supported each other through many major life moments, from graduations and medical school training to weddings and births. We were the first ones to be with our friends when they adopted their little girl and Alma officiated our friends’ elopement in Alaska who then officiated our elopement in Hawaii. We consider ourselves lucky to have this large community to spend the holidays with, to travel with, to laugh with, and to love.

 Our Home

We live in a 4-bedroom, 3-bath house in a family-friendly neighborhood in one of the best school districts in the state. Our backyard is filled with lavender and wild flowers and during the Spring and Summer seasons, we love to take care of our herb and vegetable gardens. At the end of our street is a community park with mountain and river views where the neighborhood kids play and where we walk our dog, Penny, and we are a short drive from a small downtown area that is always hosting events, fairs, and parades perfect for families. While we live in a quiet suburb, we are only 30 minutes away from a major metropolitan city. We have the best of both worlds!

 Our Journey to Adoption

Cristina’s family is Cuban and Alma’s is from the Philippines and Singapore. Between the two of us, we speak English, Spanish, and Tagalog at home and plan on passing this on. Cristina cooks Cuban food at home and has learned to make many of Alma’s favorite Filipino dishes and desserts. For Alma’s birthday a few years ago, we traveled to the Philippines and explored the different islands. It was Cristina’s first trip there and her first chance to meet Alma’s big extended family. It was a very special trip that we would love to share with a child of ours. We think it’s important that they learn about their family’s cultures and that they see the world and experience how others live.
