Dear Birthmom
Dear Birthmom
We begin this journey in a spirit of gratitude and joyous anticipation. We wonder what you must be feeling, and admire you for choosing adoption for your baby. It takes a lot of courage, and we are committed to always carrying your courageous spirit with us, as we parent your baby for the rest of our lives.
Our world is filled with love, from our dogs and our son to a great big blended family that surrounds us from here in Washington, as well as in Canada, California, Texas, and places beyond. It’s an amazing blessing to be so supported and cared for in our parenting journey, and even more of a blessing to be able to offer your baby that same protective, comforting, nurturing feeling of being so dearly loved.
A successful-but-difficult first pregnancy led us down the road of adoption and here, writing these words to you, and hoping to meet you soon. Thank you for considering us as adoptive parents for your baby. It would mean the world to us to be chosen, but also we wish you the best of luck in your journey, wherever you go from here.

Our Story
For us, life is about the people we love. That was always true, but especially since Jack came, because that’s what he lives for. That love for community and for each other permeates everything. We work mostly from home and eat lunch as a family every day. We visit my dad and stepmom every Sunday and at least some of Jack’s cousins are usually there. We FaceTime almost every day with other cousins in Texas or his out-of-town grandparents. And we spend a whole lot of time talking about the people we love, even when we’re not seeing them.
We also love to get out in nature. There’s an amazing dog park close by, and we love to go for long walks there with Daisy and Dudley. We bought a camper and now take the local campgrounds by storm in the summer. Closer to home, there are many frogs in our yard, and we spend many happy hours moving rocks and looking for them to say hi. We cherish the simple things and look for opportunities to slow down and enjoy each other.

Our Extended Family
Our son, Jack, is going to be a great big brother. He’s 3 1/2 years old, filled to the brim with big, creative ideas, and loves people so much that he doesn’t care what he does as long as people he likes are going to be there. Owen has two siblings and eleven cousins in the area with a combined eight kids under age 5, and they all get together every year for the loudest family reunion in the state. Amy has sisters back in Texas that all have older kids, who dote on Jack–and will on your baby–every chance they get.
That barely begins to describe the complex web of family, friends, and fellow parents who shape our lives. Every character in our drama is hilarious and loving and deserves a whole biography. The lesbian couple that runs our Montessori daycare alone are a feature story! But truly, no mix of words can really capture the amount of play-ready kids and loving adults who await your baby, should you choose us as adoptive parents.

Our Home
We bought our first home together in 2021, after many years of saving. It’s at the end of a dead end street, with a big yard, surrounded by huge evergreen trees that wave in the breeze. Our neighbors have three young kids and a trampoline, so Jack’s big project for the summer is going over there every time he hears them out jumping. The back is fenced, so our two floppy, silly dogs can run free and bark at the neighborhood cats. Our whole neighborhood is diverse, in age and ethnicity and everything else, and that’s just how we like it.
Our Journey to Adoption
What Owen loves most about Amy is her integrity and thoughtfulness. Even when we don’t agree, I never doubt for a second that Amy is doing what she thinks is right, and that she has my best interests in mind. That level of trust and consideration has changed my life, and shown me a way to live that I would never have discovered without her.
What Amy loves most about Owen is his persistence, and care. He is always making sure our house is in order, our family is fed, and that Amy and Jack feel deeply loved. He never sets his eyes to a task that he does not follow through on and that ability to follow through is something I deeply admire.
